On the night of 12 April 2009, then-Captain Sumit Gupta led a search party in Wakhanpur village, Bandipora district (J&K), sensed militants hiding near a group of houses, and eliminated two LeT terrorists in the ensuing gunfight ("Operation Wakhanpura"). Awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry).
